Matsushita, Renesas Join Hands for Advanced Memory Chip Development

Japan-based Matsushita, operating under the brand name of Panasonic, and chip maker Renesas, a joint venture between Hitachi and Mitsubishi, recently announced that they have signed a cooperation agreement, whereby both parties will jointly develop next-generation memory chips leveraging advanced chip technologies.
Matsushita and Renesas's cooperation aims to substantially reduce production costs and enhance performance without sacrificing battery life, Reuters News reported. As part of the agreement, both parities also plan to cooperate on the production of 32nm memory chips.
As for 32nm chip production, aside from the Matsushita-Renesas alliance, similar collaborations include the Toshiba- NEC partnership, and the alliance among Samsung, IBM, Chartered Semiconductor, Infineon, STMicroelectronics, and Freescale, as previously reported.
